A classic controller can give you a more authentic and comfortable feel, as well as better accuracy and responsiveness. In this article, we will show you how to download and install Dolphin Emulator, how to configure controllers for Dolphin Emulator, and how to troubleshoot common issues with controllers for Dolphin Emulator.

How to download and install Dolphin Emulator

Before you can use a classic controller for Dolphin Emulator, you need to download and install the emulator itself. Here are the steps to do so:

Go to the official website of Dolphin Emulator at [5](

  • Click on the "Download" button at the top right corner of the page.

  • Select the version of Dolphin Emulator that matches your operating system and device. The stable versions are years out of date and missing many features and bug fixes, so we recommend using the beta or development versions instead.

  • Save the file to your computer and extract it using a file archiver program such as WinRAR or 7-Zip.

  • Run the Dolphin.exe file inside the extracted folder.

  • Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Note: The Windows beta versions require the 64-bit Visual C++ redistributable for Visual Studio 2022 to be installed. You can download it from [15](

  • Plug in your adapter and open Zadig. If you dont have two USB ports free or you dont care for vibration, you dont need to plug in the white USB cable. It is solely for providing power for vibration to the GameCube controllers.

  • Within Zadig, click the Options menu and select List All Devices.

  • Click the dropdown menu at the top of the window, find WUP-028 in the list, and select it. This is your adapter!

  • Look at the USB ID field below the Driver box. Verify the USB ID displayed here is 0573 0337. Warning: If the wrong USB ID is displayed here, do not continue. Your adapter will not work and you might risk damaging it by continuing.

  • If everything looks correct (like the screencap below), click the box to the right of the orange arrow and select the WinUSB driver.

  • Click Replace Driver at the bottom right of the window. Youll see a warning messagethis is normal. Click Yes.

  • Repeat steps 3-6 for each port on your adapter that you want to use with Dolphin. You can tell which port is which by looking at the number next to WUP-028 in the dropdown menu.

  • Close Zadig and launch Dolphin Emulator.

  • Go to Options -> Controller Settings and click on the Configure button under any of the GameCube ports that you want to use a real controller with.

  • Select GameCube Adapter for Wii U in the dropdown menu and click OK.

  • Youre done! You can now use your real GameCube controller with Dolphin Emulator. You can also adjust the rumble intensity and dead zones in the controller configuration window if needed.

Note: If you want to use more than one adapter, you need to perform steps 3-6 for each adapter and each port that you want to use.

How to use an emulated GameCube controller with a keyboard, mouse, or other input device
